The Ninth Most Important Verse in the Bible
9. Romans 8:18-21
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
Our eyes are set right now on one thing alone – to know Jesus-Sent.
God has hinged everything upon one thing. God proves Christ true in the earth and in all creation.
God requires the most important verses in the Bible to be fulfilled by the Lord Jesus Christ in our lives at one pinpoint of time and place, in the fullness of times, and in our human flesh, right here on this earth, right now in this age. That PROOF is the casting off of the curse in all of its shadow from off of all creation, heaven as much as earth. That PROOF is the defeat of death; it is the setting of all creation free into glorious liberty.
We can understand the significance of this ninth most important verse in the Bible only by understanding story.
God is the great story-teller; His story is Christ. There is no story without an enemy, an accuser. The accuser, the serpent word, is essential to the telling of God’s great story, Christ. Christ is without the accuser, yes, but we could never have known Him that way. We know God by Jesus-Sent laying down His life for us; we know Jesus-Sent as He wins by love over every single accusation spoken against God.
In the end, we will see that the accuser in all of his accusation is only a servant of the Holy Revelation of God.
One of the “just as” verses in the Bible applies directly to this knowing Jesus-Sent, the task resting upon us to set all creation free.
As the Father has sent Me, I also send you. John 20:21
We are the revelation of Jesus-Sent. – Here is the story.
The entire creation, both heaven and earth, labors under the darkness of the curse, the vanity of not knowing God. All creation is groaning in open travail right now. All creation longs and weeps for freedom. All who have died in Christ, having lost their physical bodies, are groaning for wholeness right now. All heavenly creatures, caught under the vanity of not knowing God, groan for freedom.
All humans on this earth are groaning for freedom right now. All the shadows wandering in Hades, both human and angelic, are longing and groaning for freedom right now. All the fabric of the heavens, all the substance of earth and stars, all groan and labor, waiting with all tears for the hour of their release.
Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. Romans 8:23
For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. 2 Corinthians 5:4
Everything groans and travails for the defeat of death and for the full release of the rivers of living water out of our bellies. We also groan by the Holy Ghost for that same swallowing up of life.
This is the story God is telling; this is Jesus-Sent.
Every story is about a hero who leaves the comfort of home behind and goes on a far journey. On that journey the hero gathers friends and companions; he battles enemies along the way and enjoys places of rest and refreshment. These companions join with and follow their hero; though sometimes they are a silly distraction.
Then the day comes when the hero returns to fight for his people and his kingdom, to deliver them from the oppressor. In that final showdown, at the point where everything counts, those companions who were once a silly distraction, give their all out of the bond of love. The hero faces the enemy at the point of the lie and defeats him. He restores the kingdom and brings joy and life to all.
Here is the most important thing Jesus asked of God.
Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am (in the Father)… that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them. John 17:24-26
The unveiling of Jesus Christ and the unveiling of the sons of God are the same thing – to know Jesus-Sent, that we are just like Him, He sent in us and we sent in Him.
Our eyes are set in full right now on the great sending of the Son, on the telling of the Great Story of God. We reveal to all creation the God who fills us full and set all creation free in the glorious liberty flowing out of us.
We give ourselves with all our hearts to the laying down of our lives for our friends – all creation – as the very revelation of Almighty God.
However, to give ourselves fully to this Great Story of God, we must know its end. God tells us the end of all creation very plainly.
Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father… For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death… Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all. 1 Corinthians 15:24-28 (Feel free to read this in context)
There are many other verses that say the same thing. The Greek word aeon, mis-translated “eternal” (a mighty tare in the field, just as Jesus said) is correctly translated “a period of time.” The end result of God’s Story is God all in all – all creation restored back to the Father. Jesus was sent to seek and to save what was lost. Jesus will return to the Father having won all things to Himself.
The entire Story turns, however, on the defeat of the Lie. The Lord Jesus defeats the lie through us. But in order to see the lie defeated, we must know what it is – “Did God really say that?” – NOT ON THIS EARTH! NOT IN HUMAN FLESH!
And we must know the truth that defeats the lie: Christ Himself proving the will of God on this earth through a complete and fused union with us, Christ Himself revealing His very life in our mortal flesh.
All creation is eagerly waiting for the moment in the fullness of times when God takes the cover from off (apocalupsis – reveals) the sons of God, and God Himself in Person in fullness is seen and known by all as both the insides and the outsides of His elect, man as God revealed.
And all creation will know that God is meek and lowly of heart, gentle and kind, filled with life and joy and goodness. All creation will know that God carries each one, sharing all their hurts and joys, all their grief and laughter, all their dreams and hopes, that God carries me, personally and really, all the way through death into life. All creation will be set free into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
Romans Chapter 8 is the most important chapter in the Bible, filled with critical truth to our life and to the victory of Christ in the earth. It is the capstone of Paul’s great explanation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Romans 8:29 is the most important verse in the Bible, yes, but how can it be that this focus of the gospel and of the heart of God, the manifestation of the sons of God, has been ripped right out of the heart and view of all Christianity? How can it be any other than the serpent who has done this?
The accuser of God and of the brethren is cast down. And THEY overcame him.
I have found a man after My own heart who will do all My will.
All creation will be overwhelmed with joy and wonder as God shows Himself as He really is through a gentle-hearted people who simply believe in Jesus, that what God says about Christ their only life is actually true.
A people who lay down their lives for all!
The Tenth Most Important Verse in the Bible
10. John 14:20 & 15:4 & 17:3
At that day you will know that I am in My Father and you in Me and I in you. — Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. — And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
This set of verses is not the “last,” rather, they are the completion and the most precious reality to us now and through all the ages to come. This “verse” is the rear guard; it is the One who always carries us. Much of what has come before is simply too much. How can we bear the reality of being filled full with all of God? How can we sustain mighty rivers of God flowing out from us in every direction? How can we sit boldly inside all the authority of God over all? How can we throw all darkness off of this planet?
In all ways, at all times, we lean our heads upon Jesus’ breast. He is the One who carries us.
Abide in Me, and I in you. Precious, precious words. I tell you what. If you are receiving from any direction teaching that does not contain these words in all that they mean all the way through all, then I would suggest that you kindly and quietly separate yourself from that teaching. We don’t have to explain; we just have to know Him.
Just as Jesus is IN the Father, so I am in Him and He is in me, every part of me in Him and Him in every part of me.
We have a simple choice to make. Either this word is NOW, personal and real in all ways concerning us, or it is NOT and never will be. “Someday” does not exist. Eternal means, “always right now.” Infinite means “always right here.” God means “always Personal in me.”
We cannot know God by approaching God; we cannot know the Path of the Atonement by looking at Jesus from the outside. We know God only by knowing that we are inside of Him and He inside of us; we know Jesus-Sent only by looking out from His eyes in the way by which He was led to life. For we are entirely and only inside of Him.
Declare it to be true. Speak Christ.
At that day you will know that I am in My Father and you in Me and I in you.
Today is that day. Today we know, today we see that everything that we are right now in this world is IN the Lord Jesus and the Lord Jesus Christ fills every particle that we are. Absolute and today.
My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
Everything is about God, the Father. God is the One who wants a home for Himself, a body, through whom He can live and be seen and touched and known by all. The Father filling us full, the Father flowing out from us, the Father proving Himself faithful and true.
Christ is made perfect in our weakness.
All of me, in all of my ups and downs, my ins and outs, my fears and distresses, I am always and totally fused together with the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ and He with me in an intimate union of the complete immersion of my spirit into His Spirit and His Spirit into my spirit. His consciousness is inside of me, my consciousness is inside of Him, and we walk together in an utter sharing of life.
Jesus shares my life in all that it is, and I share His life in all that it is. I am saved by His life.
Once, going through great emotional and physical difficulty (fairly common), I was greatly distressed, weeping over my gross inability to fulfill the reality that is in my heart – and to provide for my family’s needs. I felt as if all I long to see accomplished was nothing more than my fleshy “fallen” ambition and that it could never ever be. The next morning, when I felt a bit better, I heard the Lord nudging me inside, “You passed the test.”
What had I done that He approved of? Simple. In all of my weakness and inability, I saw no shadow of separation inside myself between me and Jesus. I looked at my center and saw Jesus. I knew, with no shadow of thought otherwise, that He is my life and that we are joined together in perfect communion, soul to Soul. I knew that He shares all things with me that I am. I knew that I share all things with Him that He is. I knew that we are joined in a perfectly fused union, His consciousness inside of mine, and my consciousness inside of His.
I knew that ME, in all the distress of my weakness and anger, my inability and despair, He carries ME inside Himself, and He walks in intimate union with that very me.
This relationship, this union, IS eternal life. Eternal life is nothing else.
Abide in Me and I in you.
The life of the vine is God Himself filling us full; the fruit of the vine is God Himself going out from us. Jesus is the Vine; He is the only life we are. And the Lord Jesus Himself, filling our hearts with His glory, our very and only life, this Jesus fulfills all that the Father speaks in our lives and through us into all the concourses of the universe.
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
This is the ONLY definition of eternal life given in the Bible. Eternal life cannot mean “living forever,” or “going to” heaven upon the destruction of our physical form. What a misnomer, clearly of the serpent, the idea that “eternal life” begins by the victory of sin and death against us!
Life, the life of Jesus that we are defeats sin and death. The goal of the believer is zoe aeonian, the life of the age to come in us today.
– To know God. – To know Jesus-Sent.
Let’s bring in three companion verses that enable us to understand this very special verse.
…the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life… 1 Timothy 6:12
And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. 1 John 5:20
The gift OF God. God Himself is the gift, come in Person to be our insides and our outsides. We know God as the One who fills us with all of His fullness. We know Him as the One who flows out from us as rivers of living water.
Paul instructs Timothy, a mature ministry, filled with the Holy Ghost, to SEIZE HOLD of eternal life with all the fight that is in him. But John tells us something beyond all belief. God has given us a dianoia, a mind, an understanding – to know God. God did give us something, not separate from Himself, for this gift is the Holy Spirit, but God gives us the ability, the capacity, the faculty to KNOW God.
As we see God, as we know Him, we discover that we are just like Him. We love as He loves, we forgive as He forgives, we are perfect as He is perfect, we overcome as He overcame, we are one just as God is One.
There are two purposes for our present lives, on the inside to KNOW God, on the outside to set creation free. On the one side to know the One who fills us with all of Himself. On the other side to know Jesus-Sent, as rivers of God flowing out from us, bringing life and healing to all.
Every breath we breathe, every word we speak, every step we walk is God going out from us. Know Him.
But what is God?
God is invisible and unknowable. Yet we have been given the capacity to know Him. We cannot begin to know God except that we see Him in all ways first through the most important thing God says about Himself: I am meek and lowly of heart. God is always lowly; He is always gentle and tender and kind.
At only one time in all the history of heaven and earth, in one place only, one circumstance, does God show Himself as He is for all to see. — A Man laying down His life for His friends.
The walk of the Lord Jesus through the path of the Atonement is the only knowing of God granted to the universe before now. That walk was not something God did; it was God Himself as He is. There is no other God.
We cannot define God; He is not found in any human ideas. But we can describe Him by the only visible knowing of God that exists.
– God always reveals Himself through weakness, swallowing up into Himself all that we are including our sin and rebellion, becoming us in our present state, limiting Himself by our weakness. Thus, carrying us inside Himself, stumbling and falling along the way, He arises out of death into life, ascending on high, and we in Him. –
This is God; know Him.
But we can know Him only as our equal in heart, eye to Eye, sharing the same heart. And thus the most incredible part of knowing God are found in these three words: AND WE ALSO.
By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 1 John 3:16
God is not ideas; He is not “far away.” God is action; He is story. A Man laying down His life for His friends – and we also. This is God, know Him.
But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. 1 Corinthians 6:17
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ... Romans 13:14
In movies or books you see at times a joining of two beings by direct connection in which the mind and consciousness of both are inside of one another. This is our relationship with God. When Paul said, “We have the mind of Christ,” he was not speaking figuratively. Neither does Jesus’ “mind” come separately from His Person.
I am bound person to Person with the Lord Jesus Christ through a direct connection, a total fusion between His Spirit and mine. As a result, His consciousness, His mind, is inside of me. And my consciousness, my mind – and every other part of me is literally and substantially inside of Him.
Does He not say that? — In that day you shall know that… you are in Me and I am in you.
To what degree are these words not literally true?
Christ is made perfect in our weakness. All of me, in all of my ups and downs, my ins and outs, my fears and distresses, I am always and totally fused together with the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ and He with me in an intimate union of the complete immersion of my spirit into His Spirit and His Spirit into my spirit. His consciousness is inside of me, my consciousness is inside of Him, and we walk together in an utter sharing of life.
We put on, sink into, Christ Jesus, spirit, soul, and body.
Jesus shares our life in all that it is, and we share His life in all that it is. We are saved by His life.
